PROPOSED TRANSFER STATION IN ROUND LAKE PARK:
Groot Industries, Inc. has made public its plan to submit a siting application for a garbage transfer station in Round Lake Park. Prior to filing a siting application with the Village of Round Lake Park, Groot is required by the 2009 Solid Waste Management Plan Update for Lake County, IL to conduct a Life Cycle Assessment of its proposed garbage transfer station to determine the life cycle environmental impact of its proposed facility on the following parameters: net annual energy consumption, sulfur dioxide emissions, nitrogen oxide emissions and carbon dioxide emissions. The Life Cycle Assessment must demonstrate that the proposed facility will enhance or improve the current waste management system in Lake County for three of four of the parameters, one of which must be carbon dioxide emissions. The 2009 Plan also requires that the Life Cycle Assessment be posted on SWALCO’s website 30 days prior to a mandatory public meeting where the findings of the Assessment will be presented. Below is a link to Groot’s Life Cycle Assessment and the PowerPoint Presentation from the March 6, 2013 Public Meeting.

PRESS RELEASE:
SWALCO ASKS RESIDENTS TO "RECYCLE FIRST AND TRASH LAST" IN NEW COUNTY-WIDE EDUCATION CAMPAIGN
You can find out more information about the agency, including its programs, events, members and meetings. If you are looking for information about how to dispose of something specific, check out the Recycle & Redirect Guide and find out about trash, recycling, yardwaste, electronics, chemical wastes and many other types of materials that can be difficult to dispose of. We also have a list of facilities that provide solid waste disposal services, such as landfills, scrap yards, and recycling centers.
Recycle first, trash last!
SWALCO has launched a brand-new recycling campaign, “Recycle First. Trash Last.” The campaign encourages all Lake County residents to place a priority on recycling first, and trashing what’s left. Instead of immediately thinking about throwing away that empty shampoo bottle, for example, ask yourself “is that recyclable?” (The answer, by the way, is yes!) For a full list of what is accepted in Lake County, click here.
Through this campaign, we hope to redefine the way you view trash and recycling. Recyclable materials are valuable resources and should not be buried in a landfill. Our hope is that Lake County residents will start recycling far more, and throwing away far less. After all, according to the U.S. EPA, more than 75% of most of what you are trashing COULD be recycled.
We challenge you to transition from a mindset of pulling recyclables out of the trash to, ideally, pulling trash out of the recycling. And we ask that you to make recycling a regular part of your daily routine.
While many residents in Lake County already do a good job at recycling, we can always do better. Check out the campaign at www.RecycleFirstTrashLast.org and learn more about curbside recycling in Lake County, the campaign and what you can and cannot recycle.
