Propane Tanks

Propane tanks are the most common type of pressurized container that residents need to dispose of.  Most retailers offer "propane exchange" programs if you are purchasing a new tank.  In addition, there are some companies that offer disposal services for a small fee.  Some are listed below, but you could also check your local phone book for other sites.

Amerigas in Gurnee (847.623.1555) - $1 per cylinder for disposable tanks (blue, green or yellow).  For larger tanks please call office.
Hicksgas in Lake Villa (847.356.8225) - $5 per tank
 
Ace Hardware Stores in Grayslake, Libertyville, Mundelein, Gurnee, Wauconda, and Round Lake will take back any type of propane tanks for a small fee (Lakehurst and Round Lake Beach only offer exchange programs) - check your local phone book for store phone numbers.
