Fluorescent Lamps and Bulbs (CFL's)

Also see CFLS Page for more information
Although commercially generated fluorescent lamps are required by law to be handled separately from solid waste, residents are allowed to dispose of them with the rest of their household garbage.  SWALCO does, however, encourage residents to be environmentally responsible and, therefore, SWALCO accepts fluorescent bulbs (both tubes up to 4 feet and CFL's), from residents, at our HCW collection events.

    • Please see the schedule of SWALCO's HCW Mobile and Public Drop-off Collection Events.
    • Other SWALCO sponsored programs (FOR RESIDENTIAL WASTE ONLY) in partnership with member communities include:
      • The City of Highland Park's Firearms Training Center takes fluorescent lights at their Electronic Collection which runs on Tuesday's and Fridays year round, 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., 1180 Half Day Road (just east of Route 41 on the south side of the street).
      • Village of Riverwoods, Village Hall, 300 Portwine Rd., 847-945-3990, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
      • Village of Third Lake, Village Hall, 87 N. Lake Ave., 847-223-8422, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 2:00 pm
