  • A free seminar entitled, “Eco-Nomic Restaurant Workshop”, will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015. This free event is hosted by the Green Chicago Restaurant Coalition, SWANCC, SWALCO, Lake Shore Recycling Systems, and others, that will be held at Venue One in Deerfield. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Please review the Event flyer for details, and share with others that may be interested in attending.
  • The Illinois Food Scrap Coalition (IFSC) has completed its final report, entitled Food Scrap Composting Challenges and Solutions in Illinois Report, and submitted it to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, which issued a grant for the study. The IFSC is an informal group of about 150 public and private sector entities and is committed to increasing the diversion of food scraps and other organic material from final disposal, click here to visit the IFSC website.
  • The Solid Waste Hauling and Recycling Ordinance requires the annual licensing of all businesses that provide collection services for all types of residential, commercial and institutional facilities within Lake County. Please complete the 2015 License Application and the Final Year End Report for 2014, and mail originals to SWALCO.
  • We're working our way to your neighborhood! We've recently added yet another bin to our Clothing & Textile Collection Program at the Lake County Department of Transportation building in Libertyville!    We now have 19 locations available to service Lake County residents.
  • SAVE THE DATE...May 9th, 2015. We are working out the details for our annual rain barrel and compost bins sale. Lake County Forest Preserves will also be hosting their annual Native Plant Sale on this date. Please visit the Lake County Forest Preserves website for additonal details.


The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County, IL (SWALCO) was formed in 1991 to implement the Lake County Solid Waste Management Plan, and is comprised of 43 municipal members and Lake County.  The Agency and its five staff members are dedicated to implementing programs that increase reuse, recycling and composting and reduce Lake County's reliance on final disposal in landfills.  SWALCO's mission includes:
