Mercury-containing products must be collected at a
Household Chemical Waste (HCW) event. These products must be handled carefully. Broken products may put individuals and the environment at risk, so all mercury spills should be treated seriously. If there is a spill or a broken product, contact the Illinois Department of Health at 888-522-1282.
Spill kits are also available from: Lab Safety Supply at 800-356-078 or Grainger 800-472-4643
Do not attempt to clean up the spill with a vacuum cleaner. The vacuum will only spread the droplets and increase the risk of exposure and contamination spread. Small droplets can be collected with adhesive tape or an eyedropper and sealed in a container until the next
HCW collection event.
