Despite the U.S. Plastics Pact launching amidst the global pandemic, the U.S. Pact with the collaboration of more than 100 companies and organizations including SWALCO, has created and released its Roadmap in less than a year.
Launched in August 2020, the U.S. Pact is aligned on four 2025 targets to address plastic waste at its source: Define a list of packaging that is problematic or unnecessary by 2021 and take measures to eliminate them by 2025; 100% of plastic packaging will be reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025; Undertake ambitious actions to effectively recycle or compost 50% of plastic packaging by 2025; And an average of 30% recycled content or responsibly-sourced, biobased content by 2025.
The U.S. Plastics Pact Roadmap illustrates how the U.S. Pact and its signatories, known as Activators, will approach each of its four 2025 targets through specific actions, responsibilities and interim timeframes in order to realize meaningful, targeted outcomes for a circular economy for plastics.
